SignLoad Professional

SignLoad is by far the UK’s most widely used software for traffic sign structure design. It is built into SignPlot, for integrated sign face and support design, and is also available as this stand-alone product. It greatly simplifies the process of designing and checking posts and foundations, and produces a more economical design than any other software.

It is used by simply entering the sign dimensions and mounting height and clicking the Suggest button. If the supports are not symmetrically placed, use the Arrangement button, and drag the supports where you want them. Its outputs include a one-page summary with dimensioned diagram, and a sign schedule containing structural and other details for all signs in a scheme or project.

Built-in calculations

The program checks for design load and temporary deflection (bending, torsion and their combined effect).It considers both wind load and a point load in accordance with the current recommendations for implementing EN 12899-1 in UK and Ireland. Snow loading and sign slef-weight can also be considered. It allows you to select a wind loading class or a pressure, or to derive more accurate data for the locality concerned from its inbuilt tables from the wind loading Eurocode, BS EN 1991-1-4.

The EN 1991 method usually results in a much lower pressure, and therefore a more economical and safer design than using EN 12899 alone, and is quick and easy to accomplish in SignLoad.

SignLoad features include:

• Wind load determination using either BS EN 12899 National Annex or BS EN 1991-1-4.
• Support design using circular and rectangular steel sections of any common grade.
• Support design for Optimast, Lattix, Signstr8, Jerol, FSP, HiMAST, or Sapa passively-safe sections and wide-base posts.
• Asymmetrical support positions.
• Signs on slopes.
• Multiple signs on one structure.
• Detailed printout with dimensioned drawing.
• Passive safety check to EN 12767 (including for post spacing and mounting height).
• Foundation design for spread or planted footings and FLI screw piles with reinforcement requirement.
• Create a sign schedule in Excel.
• Channel spacing for sections from all UK suppliers for aluminium, steel, GRP and composite sign substrates.
• Covers signs made in planks or vertical modules.
• Configure the printout and change the choice of sections and products.
• Approval by BSI for manufacturers to CE or UKCA mark traffic signs to the structural classes of EN 12899-1.
• The self-weight of a heavy sign (such as a VMS) may be included in the design calculations.
  
• Follows the 2021 IHE Sign Structure Guide, including the different requirements for trunk roads in CD 354.

System Requirements

SignLoad runs under all recent versions of Microsoft Windows, including 10, sending output to any connected printer or to a PDF driver. Microsoft Excel (any version) is optional.
